PPWR & Sustainable Packaging
Sustainable packaging. Safe delivery. Taking responsibility.
At Holz Ruser, quality, reliability and sustainability are at the heart of everything we do. Our aim is to package wood products securely while using packaging materials as efficiently and resource-consciously as possible.
Our Implementation of the PPWR
What is the PPWR?
The PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation) is the new European regulation on packaging and packaging waste.
It will gradually harmonise existing national regulations and has a clear set of objectives:
- Reduce packaging waste
Conserve resources
Promote recycling
Make packaging more sustainable
Strengthen the circular economy in Europe
The regulation applies to manufacturers, distributors, importers and companies that place packaging on the market.
Companies in the timber industry will also increasingly need to ensure that packaging is used as efficiently as possible and is designed to be recyclable.
What does the PPWR mean for our customers?
For our customers, there will initially be very little change to the ordering process.
They will continue to benefit from:
- Securely packaged timber products
- Reliable transport
- High-quality packaging materials
- Sustainable packaging solutions
At the same time, we are continuously working to further optimise our packaging and reduce the amount of material used wherever it is practical and appropriate to do so.
Our Packaging Solutions
Timber products have specific requirements when it comes to transportation.
They must be protected from moisture, positioned securely on pallets, prevented from shifting during transit and arrive at the customer’s premises undamaged.
That is why we use packaging materials that combine safety with sustainability.
Why Sustainable Packaging Matters
Every type of packaging serves two purposes: it protects the product, and after use, it should be as easy as possible to return it to the recycling loop.
That is why we focus on:
- Recyclable materials
- Using as little material as possible
- High-quality packaging
- Durable transport solutions
- Continuous optimisation of our packaging processes
Our contribution to sustainability.
For Us, Sustainability Doesn’t End with Timber
Packaging is also an integral part of a responsible overall approach.
That is why we regularly review:
- The materials we use
- Recyclability
- Packaging sizes
- Material consumption
- Future regulatory requirements
In this way, we continuously improve and develop our packaging solutions.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What does PPWR mean?
PPWR stands for “Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation”. The European regulation aims to make packaging more sustainable and reduce packaging waste.
Does the PPWR also apply to timber companies?
Yes.
Companies that package and ship products will need to comply with a range of packaging requirements in the future.
Is Holz Ruser’s packaging recyclable?
Yes.
We already use packaging materials that are fully recyclable.
Why are recycled materials used?
The use of recycled materials reduces the need for new raw materials and supports the European circular economy.
Why do timber products need to be packaged at all?
Timber products must be protected from moisture, dirt and damage during transport.
Secure packaging ensures that the goods reach the customer in perfect condition.
Can packaging be reused?
Depending on the type of packaging, reuse may be possible. Wherever appropriate, we support the responsible and resource-efficient use of packaging materials.
